Beatrice Firefighters Sent to Transformer Fire, Behind Former Bowling Alley

BEATRICE - Beatrice Firefighters were sent to the area behind a former north Beatrice bowling alley Monday morning. An electrical transformer caught fire behind the former Tonka Lanes building, which now houses batting cages.
Beatrice Fire Captain Craig Fisher says the cause of the flare-up was not immediately known. The fire did not reach the building.
Employees at a business in the south part of the building, Julie’s Hotdogs, reported the fire and summoned department personnel. A Beatrice Electric Department crew was also on scene to make repairs.
Fire department personnel were sent to the area just before ten a.m. Firefighters did a walk-through of the building and saw no damage.
There was light rain falling at the time of the incident.
