Sheriff says stop sticks deployed at Nebraska City and into Iowa

SIDNEY, IA - The Fremont  County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a St. Joseph, Mo., man after a pursuit in Nebraska and Iowa on Wednesday.

The pursuit began when a Fremont County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a red Hummer H2 near Highway 2. The  vehicle fled into Nebraska, where the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol joined the pursuit.

The sheriff says the Hummer crossed the median and headed by east toward Iowa at speeds of 90 mph. The state patrol deployed stop sticks near Nebraska City and Fremont County deployed stop sticks in Iowa.

The Hummer crashed in a construction zone of Highway 2 and the driver fled on foot. He was arrested in Mills County.

The sheriff says Jorge Lara is suspected of eluding while traveling more than 25 miles per hour above the limit.
