WASHINGTON, D.C. - A U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee has scheduled a hearing called the Home 2.0 Modern Solutions to the Housing Shortage on Wednesday, July 16.

A press release from subcommittee chairman Mike Flood (R-Neb)  calls for reforms to promote a pro-market, pro-growth solution to the country’s housing crisis.

Rep. Flood described the HOME Investment Partnership Program as an underutilized tool and said the hearing is an opportunity to gather more feedback from witnesses familiar with the program.

Chairman Flood and Ranking Member Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri invited the following witnesses:

  • Alison George, Director of the Colorado Division of Housing, Department of Local Affairs, representing the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA) as Board President.
  • Ellen Woodward Potts, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, on behalf of Habitat for Humanity International.
  • Eric Oberdorfer, Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
  • Tiffany Bohee, President of Mercy Housing California.

The press release says Congressman Flood intends to ease regulatory burdens on HOME-funded projects. The Housing and Urban Development program is the government’s largest block grant provider creating affordable housing for low-income Americans.

The hearing will be livestreamed at 1 p.m. on July 16.
