Duane "Dan" Dankof, age 86 of Nebraska City

Duane Dankof, age 86 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday, October 12 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.
Duane was born on October 9, 1938. He was the son of Wilma Miller Dankof and Clifford Vernon Dankof of Hamburg, Iowa. He attended school in Hamburg, Iowa and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the Class of 1956.
He entered the United States Army on September 12, 1957. He trained at Fort Carson, Colorado and was stationed overseas. He was honorably discharged on August 27, 1959.
He was united in marriage to Diana Gayle Rood on May 14, 1960 in Nebraska City, NE and to this union two daughters were born: Mary and Lori.
Duane began his career at American Meter Company in Nebraska City, NE in 1960. He retired in 2001 after 41 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking.
He is survived by his wife, Diana (Rood) Dankof of Nebr. City, NE and his two daughters: Mary Kawecki (Don) of Bangor, PA and Lori Moyer (Brad) of Nebraska City, NE. Four grandchildren: Cassie Moyer and Ian Fielmann, Ben Moyer and Christie Young, Mark Kawecki and Christine Irrera, and Grant Kawecki; one great grandson Ethan Moyer; a brother, Dale Dankof of Shenandoah, Iowa; sister in law Dottie Dankof of Omaha, NE; many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his mother Wilma and his father Clifford, an infant sister Joyce Dankof, sister Lois Dankof Sebek, a brother Lowell (Dan) Dankof, as well as his mother in law Christina Rood and father in law Bill Rood.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday (10/15) at 10:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor Jon Telgren officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg, IA with complete military services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.
The family will greet friends on Monday (10/14) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
