SYRACUSE, NE - Looking to improve to 3-0 for the second-straight season, the young Syracuse Rockets didn't miss a beat, proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with under new head coach Joe Pavlik.

Tyler Sears and Barrett Bischoff accounted for two touchdowns each, sophomore quarterback Will Janssen added another rushing score, and the Rockets dominated from start to finish in a 40-0 shutout over David City.

Bischoff opened the scoring with a 17-yard catch and run on a bubble screen, but because of an abundance of penalties, Syracuse led just 6-0 after the first quarter.

The second period proved to be the deciding 12 minutes in this matchup, with touchdowns from Sears and Bischoff ballooning the lead to 21-0 before the key sequence of the game. Throwing towards midfield, Janssen was intercepted by David City sophomore Cohen Denker, who returned the pick to the Syracuse 7-yard line. However, on the next play, the Scouts mishandled a pitch play and Syracuse's Aiden Hobbs scooped up the fumble, turning it into an 88-yard return for a touchdown.

With a 27-point halftime lead, the Rockets coasted to the finish, adding scores from Janssen and Sears to finish off a 40-0 shutout victory.

Following Wahoo's 52-6 victory over Auburn, Syracuse is the last remaining unbeaten team in Class C2 District 1.

The Rockets will hope to bolster their playoff seeding on the road at Adams Central next Friday. Syracuse begins district play September 22.
