Fair goal: showing cattle flawlessly
AUBURN – The Nemaha County Fair’s senior beef showmanship champion, Makenna Snodgrass, has something in common with cattle judge Craig Stohlmann of Louisville – they believe in flawless performance in the show ring.
Snodgrass: “It’s very important to me to be good showman. When you show cattle you want to know what you’re doing and you want to be … I’m kind of a perfectionist, so I strive to be the best.”

Stohlmann said the showman’s task is to make sure the judge has the best view of the calf, when it turns, when it walks and when it stands, but the small ring at the fairgrounds provides a challenge.
Snodgrass: “I felt comfortable just because I know that you’re suppose to stay on the edges of the ring and you don’t want to be too close to the judge, so I stayed on the edge and did what I normally do.”

Snodgrass, 16, has shown a champion heifer at previous fairs, but pregnant cattle and commitments to the Nebraska State Fair has kept her out of the county fair the previous two years.
Snodgrass: “This was pretty big for me coming back after two years.”
Mia Gerdes was the reserve champion showman.
