School foundation recognizes passions for trades, salad bars, friendships

FALLS CITY – The Falls City Education Foundation selected a 35-year industrial technology teacher and coach and a light-hearted salad bar supervisor for 2023 awards.

Superintendent Tim Heckenlively announced The Falls City Education Foundation Annual Outstanding Teachers of the Year Award and the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award during the opening session of the Falls City Public Schools Pre-Service on Thursday, August 10th.
Roger Windle is the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Mr. Windle has served FCPS for 35 years as an industrial technology, special education and work experience teacher. Furthermore, his impact goes beyond the classroom, as he has contributed his time and dedication as a wrestling coach, football coach, and track coach. He has even donned the hat of a bus driver. Mr. Windle's expertise lies in his ability to bring the world of carpentry and woodworking to life. His hands-on approach has empowered countless students to explore, design, plan, and create. Under his guidance, students have developed a deep appreciation for the trades and skills that sustain our communities. His influence extends beyond our immediate surroundings, as his students carry his teachings to wherever their paths may lead them after graduation.
Tammy Schulenberg is the recipient of the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award. For the past 22 years, Tammy has been an invaluable asset to the Falls City Public Schools. Tammy started in 2001 when she opened the new kitchen at the high school, a moment that marked the start of her influence. Since then, she has become an integral part of our school system, working tirelessly in the high school kitchen to ensure that our students are nourished both physically and emotionally. One of Tammy's many roles is overseeing the combo line and the salad bar, ensuring our students have a variety of choices that cater to their needs. Tammy's presence in the high school is more than just culinary expertise; it's a beacon of positivity and fun. Known for her lively personality, she engages with the students, bringing smiles and laughter to their days. Her jokes and light-hearted interactions have made her a familiar face and a cherished friend to many high school students.
The purpose of these awards is to recognize excellence in the field of education. The recipients of this award play key roles in creating a school environment that promotes student achievement, safety, and health.
