OMAHA, Neb. -- A staff member was reportedly injured while trying to separate two Omaha students that were having a disturbance.

The Omaha Police Department said officers were dispatched a school in the 3000 block of Spaulding St. around 11:00 a.m. on Monday for a reported disturbance turned cutting.

Officers said they initially received a report of two students having a disturbance but were notified that it became a cutting while they were on the way to the school.

According to authorities, a staff member intervened in the disturbance between the two students. The staff member reportedly tried to separate the two but one of the students allegedly cut the staff member with a knife.

Officials said the staff member was taken to a local hospital by medics with the Omaha Fire Department. The victim reportedly had a non-life-threatening injury.

OPD said the suspect was taken into custody to be interviewed and charges are currently pending.
