CURTIS - Natalia Alamdari of the Flatwater Free Press reports on upcoming votes to ban abortion in some of Nebraska’s smallest towns.

Story highlights:

  • Residents say if they can ban abortion in their towns it will help the state ban it too.
  • Local bans may not change much because abortion pills in the mail through telehealth is already illegal in Nebraska and none of the towns voting have abortion clinics, except Bellevue.
  • In April 2021, Hayes Center became the first village in Nebraska to declare abortions illegal within city limits.
  • 10 more towns are still gathering signatures
  • ACLU Nebraska says passage of bans will sow a spirit of fear and confusion.
