Omaha man sentenced to ten years in prison for meth possession

OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha man was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison for methamphetamine possession.
The U.S. Attorney announced that 52-year-old Wesley Preister was sentenced in federal court in Omaha after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute meth.
The U.S. District Judge sentenced Preister to 120 months in prison.
After his release from prison, Preister will begin an eight-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court documents, on Jan. 11, 2022, Preister was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by Omaha Police. Preister ran from the vehicle and was caught after a short foot pursuit.
Officers arrested him on an outstanding warrant. Inside the vehicle near the seat Preister had been sitting in, police found a baggie of about 3.3 grams of meth.
At the Douglas County Jail, corrections officers found a bag of about 27.8 grams of meth during a strip search. Laboratory testing confirmed the substances were methamphetamine.
Preister faced enhanced sentencing penalties in this case because of a prior drug trafficking conviction in Nebraska State Court.
This case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department.
