Syracuse halts burn permits
3/4 of Nebraska in red flag warning
SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department has announced a ban on open burns within the district due to extremely dry conditions.
The fire department says the ban will help it have its full resources ready for the upcoming harvest season.
The western ¾ of Nebraska was listed in a red flag warning on Thursday.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal urges people to delay work outside that might cause sparks or flames and urges fire chiefs to delay approval of open burning permits.
People are advised to not drive on grass, flick cigarettes or use burn barrels.
