Escort today for fallen deputy

HAMBURG – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports an entourage of law enforcement personnel will be escorting the body of Deputy Austin “Melvin” Richardson from the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny to Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.

Authorities are asking the public not to join the escort but welcome people to line the route and overpasses. A vehicle display is located at the sheriff’s office in Sidney, where members of the public can pay their respects.

The escort is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. today.

A sheriff’s office Facebook post says the route will go from Interstate 80 to Interstate 29. They will enter Hamburg from the interstate and turn north on Main Street to the funeral home.
