Freedom Day Celebration Still On At Brownville
Flatwater Folk Art, to-go dinners and patriotic program among July 4th activities
BROWNVILLE – Freedom Day activities will continue this year in Brownville with some modifications due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Activities include the opening of Brownville Historical Society museums and the Flatwater Folk Art Museum. Local artist Rich Hayak will give painting demonstrations from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Lyceum is offering “to-go” dinners from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a patriotic program on Main Street. Attendees can stay in their cars and listen to a special Freedom Day celebration.
Marty Fattig, CEO of Nemaha County Hospital, will share the Fourth of July message and honor front-line medical workers.
Bob Heusman will give the invocation and benediction and Dale Thomas will sing the National Anthem. The music of Roxanne and Tom Vacek’s music will follow the program.
The Brownville Volunteer Fire Department, Brownville Village Board and the Freedom Day Committee will sponsor fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Due to coronavirus, several traditional events have been canceled, including the Freedom Day run, breakfast, lunch and Southeast Community Band concert.
The parade and annual firing of the famed Brownville cannon will have to wait until next year.
