NEBRASKA CITY – Police Chief Dave Lacy announced Monday changes to police response plans for calls for service and warned that people calling 911 without an immediate emergency could face prosecution.

Lacy said residents should contact police by dialing  911 on matters of life safety, but should not dial the emergency number for information about coronavirus or non-emergency issues.

He said non-emergency calls, such as fender-bender accidents or questions whether a matter is civil or criminal, may be handled by taking contact information. An officer will return the call to handle the matter of the phone.

Lacy: “We realize all of us are living in an unprecedented situation and also ask for your patience and understanding.”
