Felony DUI Charged After Drivers Report Hazards, Crashes Involving A Black Charger
Prosecutors left to wonder if it's the same black Dodge Charger. Drivers report damage collision on Interstate 80, car stopped on Highway 50, and collision with Toyota on Highway 34 that forced 67-year-old woman into a corn field.
PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County officials have filed a felony driving under the influence charge against an Omaha man suspected of a hit-and-run accident.
A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Highway 50 and Church Road on Feb.3 for a car stopped in the middle of the highway. There were also earlier reports that a black Dodge Charger may have hit a vehicle on Interstate 80.
The deputy did not find any cars stopped on Highway 50, but, about four hours later that morning, there was a report that a black Dodge Charger had hit a vehicle on Highway 34. A Toyota was hit and ended up in a cornfield. Elmwood Rescue treated the 67-year-old driver for a head injury.
The deputy stopped a black Charger near Eagle.
A complaint filed against 44-year-old Wilbur Jackson claims .239 grams of alcohol in a breath test. He is being charged with four previous DUI convictions.
The Centers for Disease Control said a reading of .15 would result in substantial impairment to drive, as well as visual and auditory processing. A person with blood alcohol content of .15 would have major loss of balance, may vomit and would have previously developed a tolerance to alcohol. The legal limit is .08.
The deputy told the court in an arrest affidavit that Jackson and a passenger seemed surprised to learn they were on Highway 34 headed toward Lincoln, rather than their stated destination of Omaha.
