SYRACUSE - The Midwest Hemp Forum is organizing the Syracuse Hemp Farmers Forum at the Kimmel Ag Expo Center on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Farmers growing hemp, processors and equipment experts will be available.

The agenda includes Alex Seyfert speaking on hemp history, Bish Enterprises on harvesting equipment and Cloud Forest Cultivation.

State Sen. Myron Dorn is scheduled during a light lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

John Lupien with Hemp Fast Forward is scheduled at 1 p.m., and Jeff Kostuik of Manitoba, Can., is at 1:30 p.m.

There is a question and answer session with Professor Ismail Dweikat of agronomy and horticulture at UNL and Dr. Andrea Holmes, professor of organic chemistry at Doane University.

Farmforum.net reported in September a dramatic rise in hemp being planted in the United States this year, with 46 states licensing farms since the US Farm Bill was passed in 2018.

The reports says there is processing equipment to handle only about 10 percent of the US crop. Hemp is a commodity for oil, seed or fiber production.
