AUBURN - Amigos Restaurant in Auburn has posted Sunday, Nov. 3, as its last day.

The restaurant has been a J Street fixture for two decades and Facebook reactions included disappointment and surprise.

Facebook posts describe the restaurant as usually busy and say its menu from soft tacos to Kopeli coffee will be missed.

Auburn Chamber Director Tonia Griener said it is hard for the community to accept the closing.

Griener: “We hate to lose any business, but we also know the importance of encouraging our community members to stay positive.”

She said Facebook reactions are valid because of the restaurant’s popularity.

A company press release says  Amigos plans to focus on growth in the Omaha and Lincoln areas.

Company President Roger Moore said staffing has been an issue at the Auburn location, often requiring employees to come from outside of the county.

Griener said the best thing the city can do is support Amigos to the end and then hope for the best.

Griener: “Hopefully we can get another successful business in there.”

Other Auburn chamber members include Pizza Hut, Subway, Sonic, Arbor Manor, Café Metro, Bulldog Alley and El Portal.

Amigos opened in Auburn in December of 1999 and will close at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3.
