Albert "Bud" Carrillo, 98, Nebr. City

Albert “Bud” Carrillo, age 98 of Nebr. City, NE peacefully passed away early Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
Albert James Carrillo was born on October 21, 1926 in Omaha, NE; the son of Joseph Lira and Ida Luella (Greer) Carrillo. He grew up in Omaha where he attended Jungmann Grade School and graduated from South High School with the Class of 1944. In high school he played basketball and baseball. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged from active duty on June 12, 1946 and the very next day he reenlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired after 30 years of service.
After Bud was discharged from active duty he returned to Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he played football and baseball. He received his degree in January 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in History and a minor in Spanish. After college he began working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and later moved to Nebraska City where he worked for Bill Gangel for over 35 years at Gangel Oil Company. It was during this time he met and fell in love with Bernice Louise Kalhorn. On April 22, 1955, they were married at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Omaha and together they raised three girls: Diane, Georgia and Mary Jo. They were married for over 55 years until her death on June 9, 2010.
He was a member of American Legion Post #8 and a lifetime member of the Nebraska City Eagles, the VFW, U.C.T, Naval Reserve Assn. and the Oldtimers Baseball Organization in Omaha.
Bud is survived by his three daughters of Nebraska City: Diane James, Georgia Harrah and Mary Jo Gadeken and husband Jerry; son William Spire of Omaha, NE; 16 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; one brother Gilbert Carrillo; niece Cathy Daugherty (Darrell) of La Habra Heights, CA and two nephews: Jeff Carrillo of Las Vegas, NV and John Carrillo of Carolina Beach, NC; other family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Bud was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law: Rich James and Wes Harrah; siblings: Joseph, Ruth and Bernice.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City with Military Honors by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, (3/10) at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City American Legion Baseball Assn.
