NEBRASKA CITY – The Marshall Funeral Chapel announced last week that Gude Funeral Homes will take over operations of the Nebraska City operation.

Dennis Marshall is a fourth-generation funeral director.

In 1971, Dean Marshall, 38, of Falls City purchased an interest in Lett Funeral Home at 1109 First Corso. Marshall had been associated with Marshall Mortuary in Tilden, which had been founded by his grandfather Horace Marshall. Mr. Lett had purchased the Nebraska City funeral home from Dan Porter in 1955.

Dennis and Carol Marshall were chairpersons of the 125th Arbor Day Committee in 1997.

Gude Funeral Homes also have a family heritage. Charles Gude operated the funeral home since 1955, with Tom taking over operations in 1987 and Tyler  joining in 2015.

Here is the press release

Dennis and Carol Marshall of Marshall Funeral Chapel and Tom and Tyler Gude are pleased to announce that Gude Funeral Homes will be taking over operations of Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City.  The Marshalls have taken immense pride in serving the communities of southeast Nebraska in a family-owned operation for 54 years.  Dennis is a 4th Generation Funeral Director, following in the footsteps of his great grandfather, grandfather and his father, Dean Marshall.  Throughout their time serving these communities, the Marshalls have worked tirelessly to provide for the families of those in their care.  Dennis and Carol are looking forward to stepping back, which will allow them to spend time with their children, Natalie, Ashley, Julie and Abbie, along with their grandchildren.

Dennis and Carol felt it a chief responsibility that ownership of Marshall Funeral Chapel be allocated to someone who understood the unique needs of a small-town community.

After much consideration, they met with Tom Gude, owner and Funeral Director of Gude Funeral Homes, where it was decided that Tom and his son, Tyler would take over operations at Marshall Funeral Chapel, serving Nebraska City, Nehawka and Union.

Both families have a rich history in funeral service.  Tom has operated Gude Funeral Homes since 1987.  Tom’s father, Charles Gude had operated Gude Funeral Homes since 1955.  In May of 2015, Tyler started his career as a funeral director alongside Tom.  In the time they have spent serving their community, Tom and Tyler have established life-long relationships with those they have served, and the interactions have provided a deep sense of pride and duty.  It is with this sense of service that Tom and Tyler look forward to continuing to serve Nebraska City, Nehawka, Union and surrounding communities.  Dennis plans to assist Tom and Tyler throughout this transition and in services to come, albeit with slightly more freedom to enjoy time with his family.  All prearranged funerals and cremations will be honored.
