Republican chair explains endorsements for First District State Legislature
Schaardt, Hallstrom each receive Republican endorsements
NEBRASKA CITY – Jim Stark, chairman of the Otoe County Republican Party and of a five-county Republican group, explained endorsements of Republicans to replace Sen. Julie Slama on the first district seat in the state Legislature.
At a state central committee meeting earlier this year, The Nebraska GOP endorsed Bob Hallstrom.
At a meeting at Calvary Community Church in Nebraska City Sunday, Stark said the five county Republicans endorse Dennis Schaardt. He said the endorsement is mainly for Schaardt’s “stand” … “small business” … “acumen” and “the fact that he won the primary.”
The Hallstrom campaign says the state GOP endorsed him because of his conservative values and his preparedness.
Schaardt received 47 percent of the Republican vote in the May primary, compared to Hallstrom’s 32 percent.
Schaardt won four counties, but Hallstrom won Otoe County on a vote of 1,059 to 652.
