Nebraska City man arrested after parole search

NEBRASKA CITY - Arraignment for a Nebraska City man suspected of possession of methamphetamine was continued Monday while the Public Defender’s Office reworks a written not guilty plea.
Roger Sterling, 59, earlier entered a not guilty plea to intent to deliver, but he is not charged with intent and his plea did not include infractions in the charges against him. Judge Julie Smith continued the arraignment to Nov. 4.
Sterling was arrested after Nebraska City police and an Otoe County Sheriff’s Office investigator assisted with a parole search of his Third Avenue residence.
Court records say 16 grams of meth was found.
The affidavit also says a basket of Sterling’s medications was later brought to the jail, where authorities say an envelope containing psilocybin mushrooms was seized. Sterling, who was sentenced to four years for attempted possession in 2019, is not charged for the mushrooms. He is currently held at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.
