LINCOLN - In her latest legislative column, State Sen. Julie Slama calls homestead exemptions, spending caps and freezing property valuations as promising ideas from the current special session of the Legislature.
She says she remains opposed to Gov. Jim Pillen’s favored bill, LB 9, but said some ideas offered at the session will have lasting benefits for all Nebraskans.
She mentions LB 22 that establishes a homestead exemption on the initial $100,000 of a home’s taxable value and LB 30 which provides homestead exemptions for disabled veterans.
She said property tax increases can by checked by limiting annual valuation increases.
