Drive sober or get pulled over enforcement for Labor Day

NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City police are participating in a drive sober or get pulled over enforcement over the Labor Day period Aug. 16 to Sept. 2.

A police department press release says officers will be working together to take drunk and impaired drivers off the roads.

Among all alcohol-related crashes in Nebraska, there were 602 injuries in 2020 and there were 77 alcohol related fatalities. The state Department of Transportation reports a 3.6 percent increase in DUIs in 2023.

Police concluded a Nebraska Highway Safety Office speeding enforcement in July.

There were 161 traffic contacts, 98 warnings and 64 citations. Officers made nine arrests and responded to five traffic accidents.
