Thousands lose power in metro area; winds hit 90mph
Severe storms caused significant damage.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Severe weather brought high winds, rain, cloud rotation, tree damage, and power outages to the Omaha and Lincoln areas on Wednesday evening.
Omaha city crews were planning to work through the night to clear fallen trees and other debris from the streets.
Wind gusts over 90 miles per hour were reported at Eppley Airfield, with a 92 mph gust turned in just southwest of Lincoln.
OPPD said over 175,000 were still without power early Thursday.
Residents in Lincoln are being asked to limit water use after storms impacted city wells.
Officials said crews were working to make repairs, and an update on the water management system would be provided Thursday.
No word yet on any injuries.
