TECUMSEH -  Authorities are searching for a carjacking suspect in southeast Nebraska.

A man told the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office that he picked up a man near a broken down pickup truck shortly after sunrise today. He gave the man a ride to a gas station at Tecumseh, where the suspect produced a handgun and stole the red, 2016 Nissan Rouge.

A sheriff’s deputy was able to get a license plate number and direction of travel of the Nissan from video footage at the U-Stop. The car owner was able to track his cell phone to the west edge of Tecumseh, but the suspect apparently threw the phone out the window at that spot.
