Program offers historical tours of Nebraska cities

LINCOLN - The Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation is sponsoring a new program called “A Day in the City” that will take participants on a historical tour of cities across Nebraska.
The inaugural “A Day in the City” tour is scheduled May 2 in Nebraska City with an itinerary that includes the Old Freighters Museum, Kregel Windmill Factory, Civil War Veterans Museum and the Memorial Building, as well as Arbor Lodge, Lewis and Clark Center and a Nebraska Humanities Speaker Dan Holtz.
The deadline for reservations is April 20.
Dr. Sara Crook, a retired professor emeritus from Peru State College, will direct the tour. She is the co-creator of a college credit tour program at Peru State called “Trails and Tales” that ran from 1996 to 2016.

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 9, 2024) – The Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation (NSHSF) is excited to announce sponsorship of a new program called “A Day In The City” that will take participants on a historical tour of cities across Nebraska. The tours, departing from Lincoln, will be directed by Dr. Sara B. Crook and will kick off on May 2nd.
Dr. Crook retired as Professor Emeritus in 2022 from Peru State College after teaching there for 38 years. An avid promoter of Nebraska, its people, and its history, Crook has been involved in numerous organizations including History Nebraska, Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, Humanities Nebraska, Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission, Nebraska Sesquicentennial Foundation, and the Nebraska Sesquicentennial Commission. Crook co-created a college credit tour program at Peru State College called “Trails and Tales” that ran from 1996 – 2016.
“I am eager to share my love of our state through this tour,” said Dr. Crook. “We plan to visit local historical sites in each city and explore their impact on each community. There are so many historical places in Nebraska, and I hope the May 2nd tour is the first of many day tours.”
The inaugural “A Day in the City” tour takes place May 2nd in Nebraska City and registration is required. The itinerary includes these stops and more:

- · Arbor Lodge State Park
- · Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Center

Lunch and dinner are provided, and the cost is $200 including admission and entertainment fees. The deadline for reservations is April 20th.
A 4-day tour directed by Dr. Crook is entitled “Sara’s History, Wine & Brew Tour” and takes place July 23rd-26th. This group will travel to St. Paul, Ord, Broken Bow, Dunning, Valentine, North Platte, Cozad, and many other cities across Nebraska to experience the wineries, breweries, and museums in these towns.
