HAMBURG – Authorities took a Nebraska man into custody following a standoff in Hamburg on Nov. 24.

A Fremont County Sheriff’s Office press release says deputies were dispatched on a report of a barricaded man that had threatened to harm himself and the residents of the house.

The press release says law enforcement forced entry into a shed and made contact with 22-year-old Joseph Troy Smith of Springfield, who was quickly subdued. The Fremont County K9 Unit, Shenandoah police and Mills County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Smith is suspected of harassment, interference with official acts and fugitive from justice.
