COUNCIL BLUFFS - Council Bluffs is diverting millions of gallons of untreated wastewater into the Missouri River for up to 10 days, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The action is taken as the city repairs a broken sewer line that was discovered by someone noticing wet soil by a normally dry section near Interstate 80.

The city began discharging wastewater into the river early Tuesday at a rate of about 4 million gallons per day.
