NEBRASKA CITY -  The Nebraska City Public Schools announced Friday that classes will be canceled on Friday, May 5, for all buildings.

A press release says the action is “due to a variety of circumstances” where staff is scheduled to be out of the buildings and the district is unable to adequately staff buildings.

The school said a variety of options were considered, but a no-student day is the best solution because of the number of staff out of buildings with student activities, such as field trips and athletics.

The press release says the spring semester typically has activities that teachers attend and in the past their classes were covered by substitute teachers. However, the district is unable to adequately staff the buildings on May 5.

Activities scheduled May 5 include varsity baseball, varsity track at Johnson County Central and middle school conference track at Malcolm.

All staff is scheduled to report and school activities will continue as scheduled.
