COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - The U.S. Justice Department reports a 48-month prison sentence for a firearm violation in Fremont County, Iowa.
Diamond Cook, 31, of Omaha was sentenced for possession by a prohibited person following an Interstate 29 traffic stop in February 2022.
A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office says Cook was a passenger in the car where a Fremont County sheriff’s deputy found a handgun. Prosecutors say Cook lied to the deputy about his identity.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods and involved the sheriff’s office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Project Safe Neighborhoods intends to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
