UNO hosts grand opening for Samuel Bak works
OMAHA - The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center held its grand opening Saturday at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Scott Campus.
A 500-plus piece collection was donated to the university and 53 works of the world-renowned artist and Holocaust survivor were on display at the opening.
A university press release says the grand opening is a major milestone in UNO’s ongoing efforts to create space where people can come together to learn from the past and shape a stronger future.
Executive Director Hillary Nather-Detisch says the next phase is to create a facility that will serve as a hub for intercultural dialogue and education.
The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center was introduced at the campus in 2019 when UNO hosted 4,500 visitors for the exhibition “Witness: The Art of Samuel Bak.”
UNO was approved in 2021 to become a permanent home for Bak’s work.
Gallery material says students will benefit from exploring the themes of memory, suffering, survival and justice presented in the works of Samuel Bak.
