AUBURN - The Auburn City Council set its 2023 holiday calendar at Mayor Chris Erickson's first meeting Monday.

The list includes 10 holidays including Memorial Day, Labor Day and Veteran's Day, while missing five other holidays, including Martin Lutheran King Jr Day, Arbor Day and Juneteenth.

Nebraska acknowledged Juneteenth, which is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States on the 19th of June in 1865. 

Mayor Erickson said the holiday calendar is the same Auburn has used in the past. He said additional holidays could be considered in future personnel manuals.

Mayor Erickson also stated the following appointments :

  • City Clerk/Treasurer: Sherry Heskett
  • City Administrator/Economic Developer: Crystal Dunekacke
  • City Attorney: Angelo Ligouri
  • Assistant City Attorneys: Louie Ligouri and Morgan Ritchie
  • Flood Plain Administrator: Jeff Rowell
  • City Physician: Dr. Gary Ensz
  • Building Inspector/ City Code Enforcement Official: Chris Darnell
  • Street Commissioner: Blake Goering
  • City Engineer: Evan Wickersham (JEO consulting Group Inc). 

Newly seated city councilman Nathan Seitz was appointed to the council's economic development, ordinance and insurance standing committees.
