Ashland Park Robbins Elementary receives 400 helmets as part of community program
ASHLAND, Neb. -- "Everyone Matters" is a collaborative program with Flood Communications and United Healthcare's that focuses on supporting communities across the state. For the first time, this collaboration extended to Flood Communications’ Spanish station: Telemundo Nebraska and they donated $1,000 and 400 helmets to the students of Ashland Park Robbins Elementary.
Where the students were ecstatic to receive their helmets, including fifth grader Yaritza Abrego. She was one of the student speakers at the assembly where the helmets were given.
The principal at Ashland Park Robbins Elementary, Janet Martin, said the school was nominated to receive the helmets by a teacher and a student's parent.
"I was honored and I think the entire school today feels very honored," Martin said. "This isn't something that just happens and we just presented 400 helmets to 400 wonderful 4th, 5th and 6th grade students to keep them safe."
Although this is the first year that Telemundo Nebraska is a part of the "Everyone Matters" program, United Healthcare started this initiative with News Channel Nebraska in 2018. And now with the integration of Telemundo Nebraska, they have donated around 4,000 helmets and more than $10,000 to schools across the state.
Jeff Stafford, the executive director of the United Healthcare division in Nebraska, explained that they decided to expand their community program to reach the Hispanic population.
"We want to support them and their communities and making sure that our materials, our outreach and everything around healthcare is very local and community based," Stafford said.
