Raiders handle Knights, advance in playoffs

LAWRENCE, Neb. - Lawrence-Nelson is moving on after handling Lourdes Central Catholic Thursday night 62-16 in the qualifying round of the D2 Eight Man playoffs.
The game was even at 16-16 in the first quarter, but the Raiders then clamped down defensively forcing a couple of Knight's turnovers.
The Raiders (8-1) built up a 54-16 halftime lead and were able to coast the rest of the way in the win. It was a tough loss for the Knight's after a really impressive season.
Lourdes Central Catholic lost a ton of production from a season ago, and still managed to rally late in the year for strong finish to the season to earn a playoff bid. The Knight's started the season 1-4 before rattling off three straight wins, including a beat down of powerhouse Falls City Sacred Heart last week.
But Thursday marked the end of the season for LCC as it finished with a 4-5 record.
Lawrence-Nelson was only shutdown on two of its possessions in the game as it executed a solid offensive game plan.
Lawrence-Nelson has been re-seeded in the new playoff bracket as the No. 13 seed and will travel to take on fourth-seeded Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (BDS) next week.
