OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha Police Department responded to a stabbing and made an arrest shortly after.

OPD said police were dispatched to S 26th and St. Marys Avenue on July 15 after 1:00 p.m. after a call of a man down came in.

Officers said they were told by Omaha Fire Department personnel that 40-year-old Dontae Berry had been stabbed by 62-year-old Gooden Townsell. Berry was taken to an Omaha hospital where he died from his injuries.

The report said OPD patrol officers saw the suspect vehicle around 3:30 p.m. in the area of N 30th Street and Ames Avenue and a vehicle pursuit began after the vehicle failed to stop for the officers.

According to authorities, the pursuit ended near N 30th and Parker Streets. The occupants in the vehicle, which included Townsell, were detained and later interviewed by OPD Homicide Detectives.

Officials said Townsell has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
