Richard “Dick” Alvin Steinhoff, 82, was born October 19, 1939 to Alvin and Hilda (Klinger) Steinhoff on a farm by Julian, NE.  He lived a full and blessed life passing to eternity on Saturday June 4, 2022 in Lincoln, NE.

He graduated from Otoe High School in 1957. In the summer, he alternated weeks working for his dad and Uncle Lawrence on the farm.   During corn shelling, he worked for Arnie Hunter.  In the winter of 1959 and 1960 he worked at Swift’s Meat Packing Plant in Omaha.

Dick already had his corn planted when he married Brenda Naber on May 6, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Douglas. Dick and Brenda lived in an apartment in Otoe while Dick rented 160 acres to farm and help his Dad. When Dicks folks built a house in Otoe, Dick & Brenda moved to the home place in April 1961. Dick continued farming until 2009. They raised four beautiful daughters, Kim, Billie Jo, Roxie and Cori. After raising their children on the family farm they moved to Syracuse in 2011.

Dick loved farming, hunting, coyote hunting and attending cattle shows. He also enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grand children’s activities. Dick’s favorite things were growing and eating sweetcorn, rocking in is rocking chair and “cold & free”.

He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Otoe. He served on the church council, Otoe school board, Otoe Coop Board, Otoe Volunteer Fire Dept, and a 4-H leader for the Better Beef Builders. They were members of Otoe Mustang’s Saddle Club.

Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Brenda, daughters, Kim (Gary) Lamb, Billie Jo (Dean) Farley, Roxie (Jay) Daffer, and Cori (Troy) Tompkins. Grandchildren: Kelsey (Mitch) Stubbendick, Matthew (Alex) Lamb, Mitchell Lamb, Megan (Seth) Farley, Tyler Farley, Mackenzie (Andrew) Daffer, Jaden Daffer, Ava and Oliver Tompkins. Great-grandchildren: Izabel and Trent Stubbendick. Siblings: Ken Steinhoff and Marilyn (Larry) Johnson. Brother-in-law: Rodney Naber.  Several nieces, nephews and friends.

His was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law, Gus and Marie Naber. Sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Ed Mason,  Sister-in-law, Jan Steinhoff and nephew, Doug Steinhoff.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Otoe. The service will be recorded and available to watch on Thursday, June 9. Burial will follow at the Park Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 7 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
