NEBRASKA CITY – City commissioners approved advancements for most street department employees Monday after facilities manager Marty Stovall said they are doing the work at a level higher than their current status.
The city has a ‘step-pay’ program with levels one through four. Stovall asked to reorganize the street department to advance three workers to a higher level because they have the ability to be crew leaders.
Mayor Bryan Bequette, commissioner of public safety, said he does not oppose elevating employees to levels that best match their actual job description, but said pay raises should only be considered during the budget process.
