(Peru, Neb.)—On Saturday, April 1, Peru State softball was swept by Evangel in Springfield, Mo. The Bobcats are now 8-13 overall and 3-7 in Heart conference play Evangel is 11-9-1 and 6-4 in conference play.
 
Below is a breakdown of how each game went:
 
Game 1
 
The Bobcats in the first inning went three up three down. The Valor had hot bats to start the home half of the first inning.
 
Three doubles after one out would score the first two runs of the game. Then a walk and a single would load the bases for the Valor. A single would have the Valor leading 3-0 early.
 
A productive groundout from Evangel would score the fourth run of the game. The Valor scored four runs on five hits, an error and left two on.
 
Carli Kohout (Cortland) led off the second inning with a single. Kohout would advance to second via a wild pitch. Then Jessye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark.) drew a walk as the 'Cats threatened with two on and one out.
 
Later in the inning Mya Mathes (Ankeny, Iowa) was hit by a pitch as Peru State had the bases juiced. The 'Cats were unable to capitalize as they scored no runs on one hit and left three on base.
 
Evangel started the home half of the second with a walk, but it would be a quick inning after a fielder's choice, flyout and groundout. The Valor scored no runs on no hits and left one on.
 
Peru State went three up three down the top of the third inning. The Valor tried to start a two out rally from a single, a hit by pitch and a walk. The 'Cats bowed up defensively as no Valor runners came across the plate. Evangel had no runs on one hit and left three base runners stranded.
 
Kohout reached on an error to start the fourth inning, but she was bounced after a fielder's choice. It would be another fast half inning as a strike out and a caught foul ball in left would end the top of the fourth.
 
The Valor got a single and a walk with two down in the home half of the fourth inning. Evangel was not able to get the runners across. They had no runs on one hit and left two on.
 
Mathes and Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) led the top of the fifth with back-to-back singles. Mathes would be out at third after Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) hit into a fielder's choice but the 'Cats still threatened with runners on first and second.
 
Then Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) singled to load the bases for Peru State. Then with two outs in the inning a wild pitch moved all the Bobcat runners as they would get their first run of the game now only trailing by three. Peru State scored one run on three hits and left two on.
 
Evangel with one out in the fifth had a runner in scoring position after a single and a stolen bag. A single in the next at-bat would bring the runner home as the Valor now led 5-1.
 
The Valor threatened again after a fielder's choice and a hit by pitch, but no more damage was done. Evangel scored one run on two hits and left two on in the fifth.
 
Peru State went 1-2-3 in the sixth inning. The Valor with one out in the bottom of the sixth had base runners on first and second from a walk and a single. Then another single would score the sixth runner of the game for the Valor.
 
A sac fly to center field would make the score 7-1 Evangel. The Valor scored two runs on two hits and left one on.
 
The 'Cats in the top of seventh got runners on first and second from a single by Wessel and a walk from Ohlde. Two strike outs would unfortunately end the game as Evangel won 7-1.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) pitched 5.1 innings striking out one batter giving up seven runs on ten hits and seven runs were earned. Krieser would take the loss. Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) rounded out the pitching for the 'Cats.
 
Wessel led the way in hits with two in game one. There were no RBIs in game one.
 
Game 2
 
In the top of the first Beckmann hit a single with one out, then Morgan Wilkie (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit a double as they 'Cats had two runners in scoring position. Then a walk from Jerica German (Cortland) with two down loaded the bases for the Bobcats. Peru State was unable to bring anyone home as they had no runs on two hits and left three on base.
 
The Valor threatened in the bottom of the first after a one out hit by pitch the runner stole second and advance to third on an error. There was no damage done as Evangel had no runs on no hits an error and left one on.
 
The Bobcats could not get much in the second as Wessel was hit by a pitch with two outs, but Peru State could not bring her in. The 'Cats had no runs on no hits and left one on.
 
The Valor went three up three down in the bottom of the second. The 'Cats would do the same in the top of the third.
 
The Valor started the home half of the third with a hit by pitch and then a sac bunt got the runner in scoring position. The 'Cats were able to get the runner in scoring position out at third.
 
The Valor would get a base runner on via a walk, but no damage was done. Evangel had no runs on no hits and left one on base.
 
In the fourth inning Peru State went down in order. Evangel started the home half of the fourth with a triple. The Valor would have a pinch runner come in. A productive ground out would score the first run of the game.
 
Evangel was able to get one more baserunner on from a walk. The Valor were only able to score that one run in the bottom of the fourth off one hit and left one on.
 
Peru State with two outs in the top of fifth got two base runners on from a couple of errors. Ohlde and Beckmann were on first and second. A strikeout would end the inning as the 'Cats scored no runs on no hits two errors and left two on.
 
The Valor were able to get a one out single, but the base runner was caught stealing. Evangel scored no runs on one hit and left no one on.
 
Kohout led off the sixth inning as she got on from an error and then advanced to second. Cassie Pearson (Aurora, Colo.) came into pinch run for the 'Cats. Pearson would get to third from a passed ball.
 
German then singled to bring in Pearson as the Bobcats tied the game at one. Two strikeouts and then a final out trying to steal second would end a promising inning for Peru State.
 
The Valor led off the home half of the sixth inning with a double. Then a single would have Evangel threatening with runners on the corners. A stolen base would have the Valor runners in scoring position.
 
A bunt would bring two runners home as Valor retook the lead. Evangel scored two runs on two hits and left two on.
 
Wessel singled with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Then with two outs Beckmann singled as the winning run was now at the plate. A ground out would end the Bobcat threat and the Valor completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched six innings striking out six batters giving up three runs on five hits - all three runs were earned. She took the loss.
 
Beckmann led the way in hits with two. German had the lone RBI in game two.
