NC pitches grant for Veterans Memorial Building
Appropriations Committee considers grant for Nebraska City sports complex
NEBRASKA CITY – Community organizer Jim Kuhn updated city commissioners Monday on a recent grant application that would propel the next phase of repurposing and restoration of the Veterans Memorial Building.
Kuhn said project advocates met briefly with the state Legislature’s Appropriations Committee to pitch a $1.5 million grant for a new kitchen and modern stage.
The building has already been improved with new windows, fire-suppression sprinklers, elevators and ADA bathrooms.
Kuhn said a grand opening on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is planned.

Parks Commissioner Patrick Wehling said a grant application for the proposed sports complex was also considered by the Appropriations Committee.
Wehling said the city asked for $1.5 million for shovel-ready projects.
