Syracuse buys parcels for fire, rescue location
Sheriff alerts council to numerous telephone scams in the county

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse City Council has purchased property at 16th and Midland as a future home of the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
The property is the former community memorial hospital.
In his monthly report, Sheriff Colin Caudill explained numerous scams perpetrated in Otoe County, including a Publisher’s Clearing House scam. The sheriff says PCH doesn’t e-mail or telephone grand prize winners, but awards prizes in person. Winners never have to pay to receive the prize and there is no need to give out bank account information.
The sheriff's office had 127 calls for service, including 69 in Syracuse. There were 30 traffic stops and four accidents.
Tim Wilson of the Syracuse volunteer rescue squad was given unanimous approval from city council for Hilary Wiebusch, Casey Porter and Kelsey Hoffman to join the Syracuse rescue Squad.
City council members Jerry Werner and Wes Halverson volunteered to sit on the finance committee. This committee was created to help with the yearly budget .
The city council approved a 40 x 88 x 16 building for the utilities department at a cost of $91,050. WJH of Syracuse will construct the new building.
Jill Crook of the parks department was approved to purchase a $8,054 snowplow for the parks truck from TCA outdoor power.
