Knights sweep Titans in doubleheader
Aspen Meyer and Blake Miller handled the Titans in the double header matchup between Lourdes Central Catholic and Humboldt Table-Rock Steinauer.
NEBRASKA CITY- The Lourdes Central Catholic and Humboldt Table-Rock Steinauer doubleheader had similarities in both matches aside from the gap in final score.
In the girl's game, the 1-2 HTRS Titans took advantage of the aggressive defense played by junior Aspen Meyer. Meyer was tabbed with three fouls within the first three minutes of play.
Lourdes Central Catholic head coach Mark Madison sat Meyer for the remainder of the first half, but the Knights found other ways to score on the offensive side of the ball.
The Knights ran a full court press the entirety of the ball game and, once Meyer picked up her third foul, the press did its job. HTRS turned the ball over three straight possessions in the second quarter.
Senior Ruby Bruggeman was huge off the bench for the Knights in the second quarter. She racked up three baskets in transition, as the Knights led at halftime 19-11. Once Meyer returned in the second half, the scoring outpour began. Meyer scored nearly every time she touched the ball in the third quarter, and finished will 11 points in about two quarters of work.
Lourdes Central Catholic girl's improved to 3-1 on the season with a 52-31 win at home. HTRS girl's fell to 1-2.
The boy's game began on a Knights 6-0 run, thanks to Lourdes Central Catholic senior Blake Miller. Miller had the games first assist, and then promptly scored the next possession for the Knights.
Lourdes Central Catholic led 23-13 at halftime, but the second half was tighter.
HTRS's senior guard Gage Schaardt led the comeback for the undefeated Titans with long ball after long ball. Schaardt and the Titans cut the lead down to four multiple times in the third quarter.
Headed into the fourth with the score 32-28, it was anyone's game. Miller and the Knights picked it up in clutch time and went on a 15-5 fourth quarter run, en route to a 47-33 victory.
Miller led the Knights in scoring with 20 points, including a second quarter stretch of 3-3 from beyond the arc.
Lourdes Central Catholic boy's improve to 2-1 on the year, while HTRS falls to 3-1 overall.
