Taylor Says Parents Should Expect Changes For Nebraska City Students As School Starts
Curriculum director says social distancing and masks are foundational to school re-opening plan
NEBRASKA CITY – Curriculum Director Craig Taylor told the Nebraska City Health Board Monday that parents should expect some changes to start the school year, including social distancing and masks.
Taylor: “Some foundational approaches - that go into forming our plan or procedures at our building -- do include social distancing. You hear that a lot and it’s nothing new, at least not now anyways, but that goes into a lot of the decisions that happen when we decide to bring 300 to 450 students into one location at any given time.”
He said masks are an important piece the school is expecting when students return to school on Aug. 13.

The school recognizes four tiers with green being the lowest risk, followed by yellow, orange and red. Social distancing will increase in each color range.
Taylor: “We are currently fielding phone calls from parents about, ‘I’m just not comfortable with it, I’m not safe,” so we’re working through those on a case-by-case basis.”
He said all students must register to ride a school bus, including in-town busing. Taylor said the health plan includes identifying bus contacts with any positive cases.
The school will offer after school clubs while schools are operating in the Tier 1 green.
