Deputy Suspects Interstate Drug Running
TECUMSEH – Johnson County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Clay Center couple July 10 for suspicion of illegal drug activity.
A sheriff’s deputy says he noticed two vehicles with traffic violations at the intersection of highways 136 and 50 on July 10. After a search by K9 Nora, deputies say they found $23,900 in cash, cannabis extract and a meth pipe.
An arrest affidavit says deputies believe a bill of sale of $25,000 for a ’59 Chevy was false and was made up to explain the cash.
Deputies say a weekly planner book in one of the vehicles described travel plans to Colorado and Oregon and flight vouchers for Michigan and Las Vegas.
Shelli Lunsford, 57, and Arthur Rankin Jr., 61, told the deputy they are moving to Clay Center to avoid violence in Michigan.
