Justice Department Notes Advances In Environmental Law Since First Earth Day
50 years after first Earth Day, the Justice Department notes accomplishments in environmental law

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division celebrated Earth Day Wednesday by reviewing accomplishments in environmental law.
Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Bossert Clark said he supports President Donald Trump’s ambitious agenda to guide environmental law by the bedrock principles of the US Constitution.
Earth Day was first observed on April 22, 1970 and Congress passed the following legislation within the next 10 years:
- the Clean Air Act
- the Federal Water Pollution Control Act
- the Coastal Zone Management Act
- the Marine Mammal Protection Act
- the Endangered Species Act
- the Safe Drinking Water Act
- the Federal Land Policy Management Act
- the National Forest Management Act
- the Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Recovery Act
- the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act
- the Public Rangelands Improvement Act
