SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Planning Commission is considering adding Airbnb lodging to the city zoning and life safety codes.

A Midland Street residence has been using the Internet-based service for about four months and planning commission members said at a Jan. 21 meeting that there have been no complaints from neighbors.
Regulations are proposed to ensure that properties remains orderly, tidy and comply with fire and life safety codes.

Planning Commission Chairman Charlie McWilliams said the commission is generally supportive of Airbnb and he expects Mayor KC Ortiz also to be in support. He said the mayor told him the city needs to keep up with the times.

The issue is expected to come before the city council later this winter.
