TECUMSEH – The Tecumseh City Council declared a Ward 1  vacancy after the resignation of City Councilman Garrett Harris.

Harris had not regularly attended city council meetings since his wife left employment in the city clerk's office in June.

Jim Reed of the Third Ward encourages citizens to think about serving on the council and contact Mayor Jesse Grof.

Reed: “This is what it takes. For people with an interest in city government to come forward and see how it works.”

Reed was asked by the Tecumseh mayor to join the council in 1986. He served eight years and then 12 years as mayor.

He said the city continues to work on the swimming pool and downtown revitalization, as well preparations for growth.

In other action Monday, Economic Developer Doug Goracke reported on housing rehab and Shawnee Ridge Development.

The council approved the purchase of 100 chairs for the community building at a cost of no more than $20 per chair.
