Curious Camper Hit By Train
Louisville Fire and Rescue responded Saturday morning
PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann reports a man struck by a train.
Louisville Fire and Rescue was dispatched Saturday morning to the train tracks near campsite 213.
Sheriff deputies, BNSF agents and Game and Parks also responded.
Crews arrived and made contact with Andrew Bateman, 35, of, Bellevue, who was camping at the state park.
A sheriff’s office press release says he “wanted to feel the breeze of the train as it passed.”
Witnesses told investigators that Bateman was struck and thrown approximately 15 to 20 feet before coming to rest near the tracks.
Bateman was transported to Bergan Mercy trauma center from the scene.
Bateman and another family member who was present were cited for criminal trespassing on railroad property.
