NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Fire and Rescue responded to an injury accident Monday afternoon at the newly opened Missouri River bridge.

Investigators say 90-year-old Bobby Barton of Sidney, Iowa, had stopped at a stop sign on Valmont Drive, but proceeded to turn west onto Highway 2 in the path of a truck and semi-trailer driven by Joseph Knight, 61, of Kearney.

The freight truck did not have any place to swerve because of the head-to-head traffic on the westbound lanes after emergency repairs to Highway 2.

Nebraska City Fire and Rescue transported Barton to CHI St. Mary’s with non-life threatening injuries.
