LINCOLN - On Thursday afternoon, Gov. Jim Pillen’s office says he continues to monitor the weather response after Wednesday’s blizzard closed roadways and interrupted electrical service to as many at 132,000.

OPPD reports over 28,000 still without power Thursday afternoon, but the number in Douglas County has dropped in the last hours from 15,000 to 12,000.

An OPPD press release says there were 132,000 impacted, but some service was restored during the storm so the total outages at any one point did not exceed 106,000. OPPD describes it as the fifth-biggest outage in its history.

OPPD reports that mutual aid partners have provided an additional 300 workers, some as far away as Kentucky.

NPPD reports 116 outages impacting 1,139 customers Thursday afternoon.

There are 456 outages in Cass County and 372 in Otoe County.

Some Interstate 80 rest areas remain closed at spots near Doniphan,, McCool Junction, Grand Island and York. The exit ramp at Platte River State Park is also closed today.

The governor’s press release says additional resources have been deployed to affected areas.
