MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. -- Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, April 15,  the Morgan County Sheriff's Office received information that Logan County was pursuing a stolen, gray 2006 Dodge Charger.

Logan County Sheriff's officers terminated the chase at the Morgan-Washington County line. Morgan County deputies were dispatched to the area. One deputy observed the vehicle traveling westbound on I-76 at mile marker 95 and activated his emergency lights. When he turned around, the vehicle had already fled the scene.

A second deputy, positioned at mile marker 90, saw the Charger traveling westbound as he headed eastbound, while a third deputy at mile marker 85 did not see the vehicle pass his location. The deputies began searching the area for the Charger but could not locate it.

A Brush Officer assisted and checked the city of Brush, without finding the vehicle.

At 7:30 a.m., a call came in from 20766 Road 23 reporting that a 2000 gold Toyota Tacoma pickup had just been stolen, with a full tank of gas. The victim stated they had video footage of the suspect stealing the vehicle, describing him as a male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

The vehicle was last seen leaving the property northbound. Deputy Kevin Bruntz and Deputy Kevin Sturch responded to the area, met with the victims, and began searching for the stolen pickup. At 8:18 a.m., parties called in from 21087 Road 24, advising that a gray Dodge Charger was abandoned on their property with Nebraska license plates. This was the same vehicle from the earlier report. Deputies responded to the location and found the car. A female victim from this location reported that her son had seen a female outside the house in a black hoodie, wrapped in a blanket. They noted that the last time they saw the female, she was near a cinder block shop.

Deputies on the scene began checking all the buildings and the tree line on the property. After clearing the cinder block shop, one of the property owners informed them that he had discovered a female hiding in a calf hut. Undersheriff Horton responded to the location and took the female into custody. She was wearing a black hoodie and wrapped in a gray blanket and claimed that she was not wearing shoes or pants.

The blanket was confirmed to have come from the homeowner’s house, where her pants and one wet shoe were also found. The homeowner allowed her to keep the blanket, and she was secured in handcuffs behind her back. Deputies Kevin Bruntz and Kevin Sturch arrived and placed the female in the back seat of the patrol car. She was identified as Tamara Morris, 33.

At 9 a.m., a call reported that the stolen gold Toyota pickup was in a ditch at the 34000 block of Road W.7. The reporting party stated that a male was being followed by a red Ford pickup. The male who walked away from the Toyota was on foot.

The male was located in the 36000 block on Road W.7. Sheriff Martin and Undersheriff Horton responded to the location, where they learned that the male had crossed the railroad tracks and a fence line heading south. Sheriff Martin located and apprehended the male, who was identified as Frank Ortega, 56.
